What Kind of Courage

“Courage is the solution to despair.” – Rev. Ernst Toller (First Reformed)

I think about courage a lot.

The kind of courage that shows the scars of failure, tragedy, and disappointment.

The kind of courage that laughs with the joyful and cries with the sorrowful.

The kind of courage that feels more prone to doubt than faith.

The kind of courage that resists the greater risk of inaction.

The kind of courage that rests in the reality of slow change.

The kind of courage that often feels foolish,

That believes foolishness can be holy.

The kind of courage that is human.

Do not despair.

Do not feed your cynicism.

Be courageous.

Remember…courage is not romantic,

But it is beautiful.
